At Mother of Sorrows, our primary concern is the health and safety of our community as COVID-19 continues to spread and impact us all. We are praying for a quick resolution to this rapidly unfolding public health crisis. Especially, as a pastor I have been praying daily for you and your family.
In case you are not already aware, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has extended to suspend Masses until May 15, 2020. This extraordinary step was taken again for the safety and well-being of us all until the coronavirus is no longer a threat. For we have remained closed our parish to the public, we also suspend to have the Blessed Sacrament exposed daily. But at home we can continuously pray for ourselves and each other and make our days holy by reading the Gospels, praying with our families, and joining ourselves to the sacrifice of the Mass by making an act of spiritual communion.
Until we can gather normally as brothers and sisters in faith, Archbishop Jose H. Gomez is encouraging Catholics to pray at home and participate in the Holy Mass via the Internet. Please keep the Lord’s Day holy. The English Mass from the Cathedral is available on television KCOP Ch. 13 on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. The Spanish Mass from the Cathedral is available on television UniMas Ch. 46 on Monday to Friday and Sunday at 7:00 a.m. Moreover, the Archdiocese livestreams daily and Sunday Masses from the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels via Facebook, @lacatholics, and at lacatholics.org/emergency/. Daily Mass is livestreamed at 8:00 a.m. in English, and Sunday Mass is in English at 10:00 a.m. and Spanish at 7:00 a.m. In addition to these livestreams, Mother of Sorrows as well livestreams her daily Masses in Spanish at 6:15 p.m. and Sunday Mass in Spanish at 10:00 a.m. via Facebook, Madre de los Dolores LA.
Please know that we remain committed to advancing the mission of our parish and our Church during this uncertain time. We hope that you, too, are conscious of your responsibility to support the work of the Church. Our parish depends on the weekly offertory collection for many vital ministries and staff compensation. I am most grateful for those of you who have sent your continued financial support by mail. Again I humbly ask for your help so that our parish may continue to carry out the mission of Risen Christ to those brothers and sisters who are most vulnerable due to the COVID-19 and keep the door of Mother of Sorrows open without any difficulties. You may pick up new offering envelopes for months of April to June from the office. Please call us before so that we can prepare them outside of the office.
Please join me in praying for the repose of those who have died, for the recovery of those who are sick with COVID-19, for the strength of healthcare workers and caregivers, and for an end to this health crisis. Please be assured of my prayers for you and all our Mother of Sorrows parishioners, and know that I am here for you, as always, during these uncertain times.
