Once again, I would like to communicate with you about things happening now in our parish. Let me begin by saying it again that I have been praying for you and your family during this COVID-19 pandemic. Praying is all I can do first and foremost and this is what we really need during this most challenging time. I also want to thank you for your patience with the Church. Yes, we are still waiting for the opening of Church. The reason we closed the Church is to protect us and others from the spread of Coronavirus. As our State and City slowly releases pandemic lockdowns and Archdiocese expressed last Tuesday, May 26, that the Church is getting closer to open to the public. I hope we will open our parish soon so that you come and celebrate the Mass and other Sacraments. I am looking forward to having you back on Sunday, June 14 or later.
By the Archdiocese, each parish is asked to anticipate a phased-in reopening and to develop a specific plan for our facilities. This plan must include maintaining social distance and virus containment practices, the sacraments on a limited basis, training volunteers for monitoring virus containment practices, regularly sanitizing the church facilities, and communicating regulations and procedures to our parishioners. When we open the Church, we must limit the number of people who can be inside of the church. It will be less than 100 people including a priest and ministers and our parish floor plan allows us only 70 seated parishioners admitted to the church for each Mass. The essential rules on health safety will be in place. For example, if anyone feels sick or has any symptom of Coronavirus, must not attend Mass. Everyone must wear a face mask and keep Social distancing of 6 feet (2 meters), etc. We will let you know more details about our safety matters.
Due to the Coronavirus, celebrations of Confirmation for youth and adults, First Communion, RCIA Baptism, Weddings, Quinceañeras, etc. have been cancelled or postponed. As soon as possible when we open the church we will schedule to celebrate and notify the families and individuals.
We now have our parish website. Still it is under improvements, but at least it is good to go with computer or any mobile device. The web address is
www.moscatholicla.org. All future communication will be done through our website. Please visit it daily or regularly. Also, anyone who wishes to give a Sunday collection or any type of donation to the parish may use our new parish website by clicking Online Donation. There is a tab that you can go to.
Per quest of the Archdiocese, our parish applied a loan from a bank in order to pay employees and church utilities and we received a loan. We can use this money to operate the parish now, but must pay back with interests next two years.
Other news that I would like to share with you is about Fr. Daniel, our associate pastor. Recently he has been named as a new administrator (pastor) for another parish. This change was unexpected, and we are saddened to see Fr. Daniel leaving our parish, but we give thanks to God for his appointment. He will be here with us until August 30, 2020. Once we come back to the church, I want you to give him words of congratulations. In the same light of having another priest at our parish, I am afraid that we would not get any other priest. Let us pray that we may have one.
I am very eager to see you all once we open our church publicly. Until then, I pray for you and your loved ones. Please pray for me as well.
